What we believe as a non-denominational church

Rooted in Scripture

We are a non-denominational church, so our beliefs come straight from the Bible. Here is our statement of faith, with the Scripture behind every point.

Our statement of faith

Ten things we hold to

Tap any verse to read it in full.

  1. Salvation is by faith alone

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our own works. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  2. Baptism is a public confession

Baptism is a public confession of faith. Scripture speaks of baptism in water, baptism by the Spirit into one body, and the refining fire of God.

  3. The gifts and fruit of the Spirit

The Holy Spirit gives gifts to every believer for the good of all, and grows His fruit in us. Without love, the gifts are nothing.

  4. Why we gather every week

We gather weekly because believers need each other. Christ is present where His people gather in His name, and iron sharpens iron.

  5. Infant dedication

Parents may dedicate their children to the Lord, as Hannah dedicated Samuel and as Jesus welcomed the little children.

  6. Communion

We take communion in remembrance of Jesus, proclaiming His death until He comes.

  7. Evangelism

Every believer is called to make disciples, to be His witness, and to be ready to give a reason for the hope we have.

  8. Tithing and giving

We honor the Lord with the first of what we have and give cheerfully, not reluctantly.

  9. Good works

We are saved by His mercy, not by our works, and we are created in Christ Jesus for good works. Faith without works is dead.

  10. Set apart

God calls His people to be holy as He is holy: not conformed to this world, but transformed, a people set apart for Him.

Women in ministry and church leadership

Equal in worth, called to serve

We affirm that men and women have equal dignity and worth and are equally called to ministry. We believe the office of pastor, elder, or overseer is reserved for qualified men (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 2:11-14, Genesis 1 to 2, 1 Corinthians 11:8-12).

We welcome and encourage women in meaningful leadership and ministry, consistent with our understanding of Scripture, following the example of Priscilla, Phoebe, Philip's daughters, and Junia (Titus 2:3-5, Acts 2:17-18).

Questions about our Christian beliefs

What people ask us

What does non-denominational mean at River of Life?

We are not part of a denomination. Our beliefs come from Scripture, and our pastor is accountable to elders.

How do I get saved?

Salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Talk with Pastor Filipp or anyone on our team on a Sunday.

Do you baptize?

Yes. Baptism is a public confession of faith. See our Next steps page to learn more, or ask on a Sunday.

Do you dedicate babies?

Yes. We believe in infant dedication, as Hannah dedicated Samuel to the Lord. Ask us on a Sunday.
